The story, in three paragraphs
In many Algerian daycares, the child's day is still told through a notebook and a WhatsApp group. In the morning, the educator jots down arrivals in a notebook she copies out again in the evening. Parents call to check their child arrived safely. Absences are reported by phone, at seven in the morning. Photos go out to a group where everyone sees everything, and the educator is reached there in the evening on her personal number. None of this is anyone's fault: these were simply the tools at hand.
Yaoumy brings the daycare's administration, educators and parents together around the same information, each with their own view. The administration runs things from a web dashboard: children, classes, staff, attendance, payments, re-enrollments. The educator works from her phone, on her classes only: check-in in one tap, daily report, photos sent to the families concerned, messaging with no personal number given out. The parent follows their child from theirs, reports an absence, checks the menu and their payments. No one retypes what someone else has already written, and a photo of a child no longer travels beyond the daycare.
“Designed here” means specific things. The week runs Sunday to Thursday, with Saturday switchable on. Arabic displays right to left, on equal footing with French, and English is there for foreign families. The vocabulary is that of daycares here: daycare, educator, class, re-enrollment. The application and data are hosted 100% in Algeria, in line with Law 18-07. And at the end of the line, there's someone who answers, in French or Arabic, and who visits daycares around Algiers.
